Translation

Translation is a very fascinating career option for a linguist and language learner. Translators are needed in every field of life. The world is being smaller and smaller day by day because of globalization, social media, and technology booms. People try to contact each other and exchange their ideas and thoughts and that can’t be done without a translator.

Moreover, different companies are trying to reach the common masses and for that, they try to hire more people for translation as linguists play a key role in translating the documents, products, and services. Companies also want to solve the problems of the customer for that they need to reach out to the customers in their native language and that can’t be done without linguist who has acquired different languages.

What is translation all about? In very simple words we can say that translation is all about converting any type of documents from one language into another language taking care of the original meaning of the text. If you are bilingual and you have a good command of languages so the translation is a very good career option for you. Mostly, a career in the field of translation involves the conversion of any documents from a foreign language to the mother tongue.

Making a career in the field of translation is very interesting and provides you a good opportunity to know about other cultures and traditions. There are different domains in the field of translation such as literary translation, scientific and technical translation, legal and financial translation, commercial and medical translation, etc.

It is always good to choose a domain as per your interest and specialize in that area. Choosing an area is also depending on the ability and passion of the translators.

Translators play a very important role in society. It may be that you are not aware of the importance of a translator, but there are very high chances that a translator has done something for you. You go to the market and buy some products; there is a possibility that a translator has worked for the product to translate the information into your language. This is just an example. There can be several instances that a translator has worked and done some work for you and you don’t know it. Now translators work in every field of life.

Do you have a question?

Someone may think that the machine is going to replace human translators. There will be no need for human translators; the machine will do the work of a human. This question can be applied in every field not in the fields related to language services only, moreover, it is not true in the case of language the truth is just the opposite of it. The machine may translate the texts from one language into another, but what about the quality and real meaning of the text. Languages have such a diverse expression that machines can’t do justice while doing the translation. Language has emotion and feeling that only a human can understand not a machine.

The machine translation is indeed increasing day by day, but we also have to keep in mind that its primary users are government agencies, professional translators, and huge businesses. Yet they need human translators to edit the text after machine translation. So we can say that machine translation can’t replace human translators.

There are several types of translation, we will see about it in next post ….
