The purity of languages is a controversial term and it’s debatable. Linguistics and scholars have gone in both directions; maintaining the language purity and diversification of a language. Infect, Languages are very dynamic and they keep changing over the period. We may see changes in vocabulary and Pronunciation, entry of new words into a specific language from another one. Even we see the changes in prefixes and suffixes and sentence structures. These changes occur because of trade relations, communication between different language-speaking people, international relations and cultural exchange, etc.
I think, purity of languages is a myth and it’s very hard to keep a language pure. The purity of a language is not possible at any cost, it’s a very dubious idea and that is against nature. This idea leads to the death of a language as we know what happened with Greek and other languages that were isolated for purity. What we can do is create an academy of the language that will look into now foreign words; structures and grammar and make it suitable to that specific language. We see there are several academies of the Arabic language and they keep an eye on new words and structure in other languages and try to localize them according to the nature of the Arabic language. In this way we can make our language very rich that will fulfill the need for the present time and we will not lack behind while expressing our ideas and thoughts.
Some people blame translators and interpolators for contaminating a language i.e. making any language impure and contaminating the specific language with the virus of other languages and foreign words, but I think translators and interpolators play a very important role in enriching the language and cultural exchange, that leads to peace, harmony, and brotherhood. When there is a cultural exchange so people will know each other linguistically and culturally and make good relations and avoid fighting each other. We have to protect our language and culture but that doesn’t mean to make them isolated. Love your language and culture and enrich them as much as you can. Thanks
